Another happy mail day: I got my fibre from February's Odyssey Trail update at Countess Ablaze, a Turkish spindle, and some 40" circular needles for making socks (I'm learning to knit two-at-a-time magic loop, but more on that in an upcoming post).
The fibre is beautiful - though I'm hardly surprised because Lyndsey is a master dyer and all her pieces are simply stunning. A Child Endures Many Griefs is a mix of Wensleydale and black Tussah silk (70/30) in various rich shades of turquoise, green, purple and orange. This should definitely be an interesting spin due to Wensleydale's long staple length (20-30cm on average!) so I'm looking forward to see how this goes.
I'd been looking at Turkish spindles for a while, and Turtlemade makes lovely 3D printed ones in a variety of colours, that are nice and light and don't break the bank. I've seen some beautiful wooden ones on Etsy but I don't want to spend a ton of money on a spindle I might not even like! So, Turtlemade it is. I chose white, blue and yellow, and I really love it! It's super cheerful, and I've already given it a little test spin today. I'm most excited about having a centre-pull ball at the end all ready, without having to wind the cop!
Really, I've probably been spending too much on wool recently. But hey...

DeleteOhhh my goodness that fibre looks incredible! I'm a big fan of treating yo self. Let's not talk about how much I spent on yarn today… haha.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it gorgeous? It's so unbelievably soft. I think it's destined to be singles...
